Registered Nurse – Ward (Part‑time, Fixed‑term)

About the role

Southern Cross New Plymouth Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse to join its Ward team on a rostered part‑time (0.8 FTE) fixed‑term basis for 12 months, covering parental leave. You will provide pre‑ and post‑operative care to patients across a wide range of surgical specialties in a modern private hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct patient assessments and monitor recovery after surgery.
• Administer medication and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality clinical care.
• Create a reassuring environment for patients and their whānau, keeping them informed throughout their stay.
• Prioritise workload effectively in a fast‑moving surgical ward.

Required profile

• Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate.
• Minimum two years’ experience in an acute clinical setting.
• Confidence working across multiple surgical specialties.
• Strong organisational skills and sound clinical judgement.
• Clear communication style and a positive, practical approach.
• Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience in private healthcare is helpful but not essential.
