Registered Nurse – Special Care Unit

About the role

Join Braemar Hospital’s Special Care Unit (SCU) as a Registered Nurse, delivering high‑quality post‑surgical care to patients ranging from minor procedures to complex cardiothoracic and oncological cases. You will work within a close‑knit, multidisciplinary team focused on patient wellbeing and staff wellness.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive post‑operative nursing care for a diverse surgical caseload.
• Monitor patients, manage pain, and respond to clinical changes promptly.
• Collaborate with the Charge Nurse and multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective care.
• Adapt to rostered and rotating shifts, including occasional coverage in other hospital areas as needed.
• Maintain accurate patient records and adhere to hospital policies and protocols.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of relevant ICU/HDU experience.
• Current New Zealand Nursing Registration (APC).
• Strong communication skills and ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Excellent time‑management, problem‑solving, and teamwork orientation.
• Willingness to work rostered, rotating shifts and support other units when required.
