Rainbow Community Engagement Assistant – Health Research (Casual)

About the role

The University of Auckland has several casual positions available across Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington and Dunedin. You would join the Sex and Prevention of Transmission Study (SPOTS) team, helping to recruit participants, mainly men who have sex with men, to complete a research survey aimed at improving HIV prevention and blood donation policy in New Zealand. The work involves engaging with and enrolling participants at local Pride events and community venues.

Key responsibilities

• Engage with and enrol participants at local Pride events and community venues
• Support data collection across Aotearoa New Zealand
• Communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and build positive connections

Required profile

• Outgoing, approachable and organised, with confidence communicating with people from diverse backgrounds
• Experience in a people-facing role such as customer service, volunteering or community engagement is highly desirable
• Interest in health research and improving health outcomes for rainbow communities
• Professional, approachable and respectful manner when engaging with research participants
• Experience with rainbow communities, health or community services, or study in a health-related field stands out

What we offer

• Casual position, approximately 8-20 hours in total including training, with no fixed hours
• Pay of $30 per hour
• Availability mainly Thursday to Sunday, especially evenings and weekends, during the peak study period (February to April)
