Quarantine Officer

About the role
The Quarantine Officer role is a permanent, full‑time position based in Queenstown, supporting New Zealand's biosecurity system at airports, ports, mail centres and cargo facilities. Officers ensure that cargo and passengers entering the country are free of biosecurity risk, working on a rotational roster that includes varied shifts throughout the week.
Key responsibilities
- Inspect cargo, mail and passenger items for biosecurity threats.
- Conduct risk assessments and enforce quarantine regulations.
- Operate in both indoor and outdoor environments, often standing for extended periods.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain compliance.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of inspections and incidents.
Required profile
- Passion for protecting New Zealand's natural environment and primary industries.
- Self‑motivated, team‑oriented and able to work across diverse tasks and worksites.
- Physically fit and able to stand for long periods.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Full New Zealand driver licence and citizenship or permanent residency.
Required skills
- High level of computer literacy.
