Quality Control Lab Technician

About the role

Join the quality team at Waters & Farr’s Whanganui plant, reporting to the Quality Manager. You will ensure that every polyethylene and polypropylene pipe and joint leaving the facility meets stringent quality and environmental standards, supporting critical infrastructure projects across New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Perform post‑production measurements and tests on pipes and joints, including hydrostatic pressure, thermal stability, reversion, and butt‑weld/fitting joint testing.
• Operate precision measuring tools such as vernier calipers, micrometres, and pressure/temperature gauges.
• Conduct materials composition testing (OIT) and document results for client reports.
• Calibrate and verify measurement equipment on a regular basis.
• Identify and implement improvements to testing processes.
• Support team training, highlight skills gaps on the factory floor, and contribute to quality‑improvement projects.

Required profile

• Experience operating crane equipment.
• Ability to handle medium‑weight samples manually.
• Competent computer skills with laboratory test software.
• Current driver’s licence.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical work approach.
• Good communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
