Purchasing Team Leader (Wellington)

About the role

Transpower is seeking a Purchasing Team Leader to head a team of purchasing coordinators in Wellington. The role combines hands‑on purchasing management for major projects and maintenance with people leadership, ensuring critical materials and services are available for the national electricity grid.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a team of purchasing coordinators, fostering a supportive and high‑performance environment.
• Oversee end‑to‑end purchase order management to guarantee timely delivery of inventory and project materials.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Procurement, Grid Delivery, Engineering and Finance to align purchasing activities with operational goals.
• Maintain strong relationships with external suppliers, monitoring delivery timelines and performance.
• Drive continuous improvement of purchasing systems, processes, data quality and reporting to increase efficiency and reduce manual effort.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in people management or leading change/project initiatives.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in purchasing, supply chain or a similarly complex operational environment.
• Sound understanding of purchasing principles.
