Property Maintenance Officer

About the role

Central Kids is seeking a Property Maintenance Officer to lead planned and reactive repairs, maintenance and refurbishment across its early childhood education sites in the Central North Island. You will travel to 47 kindergartens and three office locations, ensuring safe, compliant, and well‑maintained environments for children and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled and emergency repairs, maintenance tasks and refurbishment projects.
• Coordinate and supervise external contractors and service providers.
• Maintain strong relationships with Regional Managers, Head Teachers, local councils and other stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, building codes and the Vulnerable Children’s Act.
• Use maintenance management software and Microsoft Office to log work, track progress and report outcomes.
• Travel extensively across the Central North Island, operating a company vehicle safely.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of practical building or maintenance experience, preferably as a qualified carpenter or builder.
• Solid understanding of health & safety, building code and related regulations.
• Strong time‑management, ability to juggle multiple priorities and work under pressure.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
• Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand, clean driver’s licence and no criminal convictions.
• Willingness to develop knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Ao Māori and Te Reo Māori.
