Project Manager – Water Projects

About the role

Downer is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join its Water team in Wellington, New Zealand. You will lead the delivery of water‑treatment and infrastructure projects, ensuring they meet client expectations, safety standards and commercial targets.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, engineer, scope, estimate, quote and deliver water‑related projects.
• Set parameters, direction and outcomes for internal teams and subcontractors.
• Take overall responsibility for site quality, appearance, cleanliness, compliance and health & safety.
• Maintain accurate records and schedules to support timely invoicing.
• Build and sustain strong client relationships based on trust and open communication.
• Drive superior safety, environmental and quality performance across operations.

Required profile

• Relevant engineering or construction/civil management qualifications.
• Proven experience in a contracting environment, preferably with water‑treatment projects.
• Strong project delivery expertise, including scoping, costing and execution.
• Demonstrated commitment to Zero Harm and HSEQ leadership.
• Solid technical, commercial and financial acumen.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, prioritisation and time‑management skills.

Required skills

• Project management and delivery of civil/construction projects.
• Understanding of construction/civil engineering practices, compliance and financial controls.
