Project Manager – Civil Construction

About the role

Brian Perry Civil, a leading New Zealand civil construction contractor, is seeking a Project Manager to lead the delivery of underground infrastructure projects such as pipeline renewals, dig‑and‑relay, tunnelling and directional drilling. You will own project outcomes from planning through to handover, working with a skilled delivery team and trusted subcontractors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end delivery of underground infrastructure projects, including renewals, dig‑and‑relay, tunnelling and directional drilling.
• Build, lead and develop a high‑performing project team, setting clear expectations and supporting performance.
• Own the project budget, programme and risk register, identifying and resolving issues proactively.
• Manage relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and local authorities, ensuring clear communication.
• Champion health, safety and environmental standards, modelling expected behaviours.
• Drive quality outcomes throughout the contract period, meeting contractual, legal and company standards.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in engineering or a related discipline; Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status is an advantage.
• 10 + years of experience in civil or construction project management, with strong knowledge of underground infrastructure methods.
• Proven ability to lead and develop multidisciplinary teams in large‑scale projects.
• Sound commercial acumen, including budget, contract, procurement and margin management.
• Strong working knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation and Resource Management Act (RMA) requirements.
• Clear and confident communicator able to align teams and build stakeholder trust.
