Project Engineer (M/F)

About the role

HEB Construction, a leading civil construction company in New Zealand, is seeking a Project Engineer (M/F) to support the Ōtaki to North Levin highway upgrade. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will provide on‑site technical and operational support for bridge and structural works, ensuring safety, quality and schedule compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for bridge construction, including piling, substructures and superstructures.
• Develop and coordinate construction methodologies, temporary works and sequencing.
• Support health and safety planning, safe work methods and on‑site compliance.
• Assist with procurement, subcontractor coordination and cost tracking.
• Manage quality assurance processes, inspections, testing and documentation.
• Carry out site set‑out and verification using construction drawings and site datums.
• Update programmes, handle variations and support extension of time claims.
• Ensure environmental compliance and best‑practice site control.

Required profile

• Engineering qualification or Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Senior Site or Project Engineer on bridge or major structural projects.
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies and temporary works.
• Detail‑oriented, motivated and able to work effectively in a team‑based construction environment.
