Project Engineer – Bridge & Structural Construction

About the role

HEB Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to provide technical and operational support for bridge and structural works on the Ōtaki to North Levin highway upgrade. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will work on‑site delivering engineering assistance, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for bridge construction, including piling, substructures and superstructures.
• Develop and coordinate construction methodologies, temporary works and sequencing.
• Support health and safety planning, safe‑work methods and on‑site compliance.
• Assist with procurement, subcontractor coordination and cost tracking.
• Manage quality assurance processes, inspections, testing and documentation.
• Carry out site set‑out and verification using construction drawings and site datums.
• Update programmes, handle variations and extension‑of‑time claims.
• Support environmental compliance and best‑practice site control.

Required profile

• Engineering qualification or Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum 5 years experience as a Senior Site or Project Engineer on bridge or major structural projects.
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies and temporary works.
• Detail‑focused, motivated and able to work effectively in a team‑based construction environment.
