Project Cost Specialist

About the role

Babcock is seeking a Project Cost Specialist to join its Program Controls team in Devonport, Auckland. In this role you will monitor project performance, keep budgets on track, and turn cost data into actionable insights that support decision‑making across complex engineering and defence programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and update project cost control registers and forecasts.
• Produce Earned Value Management (EVM) reports and variance analyses.
• Validate cost data for accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
• Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to communicate financial performance.
• Support resource and cost planning activities throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or related field (or Diploma in Project/Construction Management).
• 3–5+ years of experience in project cost control or finance.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify risks and present clear insights.
• Proactive, detail‑oriented and comfortable working in a collaborative environment.

Required skills

• Earned Value Management (EVM) reporting.

• Experience with ERP systems such as IFS or Deltek.
• Resource and cost planning.
