Professional Teaching Fellow, School of Biological Sciences

About the role

The School of Biological Sciences at the University of Auckland is inviting applications for a permanent Professional Teaching Fellow (1.0 FTE, PTF Level 1-2 on the University Pay Scale). The successful candidate contributes to teaching programmes including the Tertiary Foundation Certificate and undergraduate programmes, and works within a collegial, collaborative academic community.

Key responsibilities

• Teach lectures, laboratories, field trips and tutorials
• Develop curriculum and design teaching resources
• Provide academic pastoral care to students
• Contribute to service-related activities across the University and wider community
• In the future, opportunities may exist to teach at international partner institutions, such as in China, for periods of about one month at a time

Required profile

• A postgraduate tertiary qualification in biology, with subject expertise in at least one of: Ecology, Biodiversity, Evolution or Quantitative Biology
• Experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds, particularly Māori and Pacific students; experience coordinating undergraduate courses is advantageous
• Engagement with, or a strong interest in, the scholarship of teaching and learning
• Commitment to inclusiveness and to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Required skills

• Preferred: a track record of developing innovative teaching methods and learning resources
• Preferred: familiarity with different teaching modalities and learning management systems
• Preferred: a teaching qualification (not essential)

What we offer

• Remuneration from $105,790 (PTF1) to $116,929 (PTF2) per year, depending on skills and experience
