Professional Teaching Fellow – Chemical Engineering

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, industry‑connected Professional Teaching Fellow in Chemical Engineering to join the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Auckland. The role focuses on delivering practice‑oriented teaching that equips students with both technical knowledge and professional engineering skills.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality teaching across core Chemical Engineering courses and professional engineering skills programmes.
• Develop engaging learning experiences that integrate engineering practice with communication, collaboration, innovation and systems thinking.
• Coordinate and teach undergraduate Chemical Engineering and ENGGEN courses.
• Supervise final‑year Chemical Engineering design projects.
• Apply research‑informed teaching practices to enhance student learning.
• Build partnerships with industry and support student engagement activities such as Open Day and outreach.
• Contribute to departmental service, curriculum development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Passionate about engineering education and inspiring the next generation of chemical engineers.
• Experienced engineer transitioning to academia or educator with strong industry experience.
• Ability to bring real‑world engineering experience into the classroom.
• Commitment to a permanent, full‑time (40 hrs/week) position.
