About the role
The Principal Audit Manager reports to the Chief Internal Auditor and leads a team of 13 professionals within the Principal Audit Unit. Based in Wellington CBD, the role supports the NZDF’s wide‑range operations, from bases and overseas posts to health services and logistics.
Key responsibilities
- Manage three direct reports and oversee delivery of high‑quality, strategic internal audit and advisory services across the NZDF.
- Coach, develop and mentor team members to foster career progression and build capability.
- Promote the internal audit function as a trusted advisor and champion continuous improvement.
- Advocate hybrid working models that enable flexibility and agility.
- Lead audit assignments across geographically dispersed locations, requiring occasional domestic and international travel.
Required profile
- Senior‑level experience in audit, assurance or business advisory.
- Proven project‑management ability to handle multiple concurrent projects.
- Exceptional communication skills for diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated success in leading and developing high‑performing teams.
- NZ citizenship and eligibility for Top Secret security clearance.
- Willingness to travel as required.
