Policy Officer – Trade Affairs (Fixed‑Term)

About the role

The European Union Delegation in Wellington seeks a Policy Officer for Trade Affairs on a fixed‑term basis. The role supports the Trade Section during a maternity leave period and may be extended depending on budget availability. You will work closely with the Head of Section and engage with a wide range of stakeholders on EU‑New Zealand trade matters.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and analyse policy developments affecting EU‑New Zealand trade, investment and economic security.
• Draft economic and trade reports for EU headquarters.
• Support the implementation of the EU‑New Zealand Free Trade Agreement.
• Engage with New Zealand officials, third‑country representatives, EU Member State missions, businesses and civil‑society stakeholders.
• Participate in work‑related travel and occasional virtual meetings outside normal hours.

Required profile

• New Zealand nationality or residency, currently residing in New Zealand.
• Relevant experience in trade policy, economic analysis or related fields.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multicultural team.
