People Consultant

About the role

Our People & Communications team at Westpac NZ is looking for an experienced People Consultant with a focus on Employee Relations. The role is fixed‑term and reports to the Senior Manager People Advisory, supporting people leaders across the business with advice, coaching and case management.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with People Business Partners and Business Managers to resolve complex employee matters and drive HR initiatives.
• Provide education, coaching and guidance on People policies, practices and processes to line managers.
• Manage end‑to‑end Employee Relations cases, including disciplinaries, performance management, investigations, absence and wellbeing issues.
• Support people projects and cyclical People & Communications activities.
• Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships and promote the People & Communications brand internally.

Required profile

• Customer‑centric mindset with proven ability to develop relationships at all organisational levels.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand employment law and hands‑on experience managing ER cases from start to finish.
• Experience in a fast‑paced HR generalist environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.

Required skills

• Sound understanding of NZ employment legislation.
• Experience handling disciplinary, performance and investigation processes.
