People Advisor (Fixed-Term, up to June 2027)

About the role

As a People Advisor you will be the first point of contact for over 8,000 Auckland Council staff, delivering timely, high-quality HR advice and support via inbound and outbound phone calls. This fast-paced, fixed-term role (until June 2027) focuses on helping employees navigate HR systems, tools and policies while providing a positive, people-focused experience.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to a wide range of HR queries, offering consistent and accurate guidance.
• Empower staff to use HR self-service tools and resources effectively.
• Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive employee information.
• Collaborate with the People Advice team to continuously improve service delivery.
• Document interactions and update HR records in accordance with council policies.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of experience as a trusted business advisor delivering HR operational support.
• Experience in a high-volume, customer-focused environment.
• Strong emotional intelligence and resilience in challenging situations.
• Familiarity with New Zealand employment legislation or Auckland Council employment policies is an advantage.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

• Ability to handle confidential data with professionalism.
