Pavement Foreperson – Lead Construction Crews

About the role

Downer is seeking a hands‑on Pavement Foreperson to lead construction crews and deliver high‑quality pavement works across the Manawatu‑Whanganui region. This full‑time, permanent position involves planning, coordinating and supervising daily activities to ensure safe, efficient and compliant delivery of civil construction projects.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organise and supervise crews to complete pavement works on time and to specification.
• Lead Downer staff and subcontractors, assigning tasks and managing priorities.
• Monitor site progress, adjust work programmes and maintain accurate daily job records.
• Support variation valuation with the Project Engineer and ensure work is set out before crews start.
• Manage plant utilisation, maintenance planning and fuel usage in line with company protocols.
• Promote a Zero Harm safety culture and provide on‑site training and development for crew members.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising crews in civil construction or maintenance environments.
• Strong knowledge of pavement construction and site operations.
• Ability to lead teams, make decisions in dynamic environments and coordinate subcontractors.
• Full NZ driver’s licence.
