Operator Maintainer – Operations

About the role

Genesis Energy is seeking an Operator Maintainer for the Tokaanu Power Station, part of the Tongariro Power Scheme in New Zealand. Reporting to the Tongariro Site Manager, you will operate and maintain generation and auxiliary plant in line with the company’s Asset Management Plan and business KPIs.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain up‑to‑date operational documentation, including procedures, work orders, job plans, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Oversee work activities to ensure safety, quality, and efficient resource use.
• Execute preventative and defect maintenance tasks and manage work packages as part of the Asset Management Plan.
• Identify and implement improvements to maximise overall scheme efficiency.
• Operate the scheme’s Human‑Machine Interface (HMI) control systems when required.
• Monitor plant condition, report defects, and take corrective action.

Required profile

• Previous experience in hydro‑power generation, electricity distribution, or industrial operations.
• Technical training in electrical, mechanical or related systems; National Certificate in Electrical Supply (Hydro Operator) Level 4 is preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving ability.
• Experience in heavy rotating equipment environments.
• Full clean driver’s licence and residence within reasonable proximity to the power scheme.
• Flexibility to work outside normal hours and on‑call roster.
