Operator Maintainer – Operations (Hydro Power)

About the role

Genesis is seeking an Operator Maintainer for its Tokaanu Power Station, part of the Tongariro Power Scheme in New Zealand. Reporting to the Tongariro Site Manager, you will operate and maintain hydro generation equipment, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain generation plant and auxiliary equipment.
• Carry out preventative and corrective operational and maintenance tasks in line with the Asset Management Plan.
• Monitor plant condition, identify defects, and take corrective action to maintain reliability.
• Take control of plant via Human Machine Interface (HMI) when required.
• Maintain operational records, procedures, and documentation.
• Support planning and coordination of work activities to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Identify opportunities to improve plant performance and overall scheme efficiency.

Required profile

• Technical qualification in electrical, mechanical or equivalent work experience.
• National Certificate in Electrical Supply (Hydro Operator) Level 4 – desirable but not essential.
• Experience in power generation, electricity distribution, or similar industrial environment – preferred but not mandatory.
• Full, clean driver’s licence.
• Computer literate and willing to live within reasonable proximity of the power scheme.

Required skills

• Electrical systems knowledge.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Hydro operator certification (National Certificate in Electrical Supply Level 4).
• Human Machine Interface (HMI) control.
