Operative – General Maintenance & Highway Operations

About the role

Ringway is seeking an Operative to carry out general maintenance and highway operations across the South West region. Working alongside a Chargehand, you will perform routine and cyclical tasks, respond to emergency call‑outs, and support winter maintenance activities.

Key responsibilities

• Execute a wide range of maintenance works on highways and related infrastructure.
• Assist the Chargehand on emergency and out‑of‑hours call‑outs, following a rota system.
• Provide support for winter maintenance as a second man or driver’s mate.
• Operate small plant, mini excavators and other equipment as required.
• Complete and submit accurate record sheets, either paper‑based or electronic.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 months of relevant experience in construction or highway maintenance.
• Willingness to work varying hours, including emergency and winter call‑outs.
• Team‑player attitude with the ability to work independently when needed.
• Commitment to health, safety and risk‑assessment procedures.
