Occupational Hygiene Technician

About the role

The Occupational Hygiene Technician will join OceanaGold's Health & Safety team at the Macraes gold operation in New Zealand. You will provide health and safety services to ensure compliance with legislation, regulatory authorities and the company’s HSE standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct occupational hygiene monitoring, including air sampling, noise dosimetry, ambient noise measurement and fit‑testing of respiratory and hearing protection devices.
• Maintain the electronic health and hygiene database (Cority) and the chemical inventory system (ChemAlert) from a H&S perspective.
• Support pre‑employment, periodic and exit health assessments for site personnel.
• Participate in health exposure investigations and advise on control measures for dust, noise, heat and vibration.
• Facilitate quarterly Health and Hygiene Committee meetings and deliver education sessions on hygiene‑related risks.
• Perform fitness‑for‑work testing, including drug, alcohol and hydration testing.
• Identify and implement health promotion strategies to optimise workforce wellbeing.

Required profile

• Experience in occupational hygiene, occupational health and safety, nursing or a related field.
• Ability to record and interpret valid monitoring data and to communicate findings effectively.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and HSE performance standards.
