About the role

The University of Auckland’s University Health and Counselling Service is seeking an experienced Medical Lead to provide clinical leadership and strategic direction. This senior position combines hands‑on patient care with responsibility for shaping primary healthcare delivery for a diverse student population.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and mentorship to medical practitioners within the service.
• Promote excellence in clinical practice, patient safety, and quality improvement.
• Support clinical governance activities and ensure compliance with professional standards and legislation.
• Contribute to service planning, operational decision‑making, and strategic initiatives.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, counsellors, psychologists, and administrative staff.
• Maintain a high standard of care through direct patient consultations.
• Develop and implement evidence‑based healthcare practices.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external healthcare providers.

Required profile

• Qualified medical practitioner with extensive clinical experience.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
• Strong understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
