Medical Laboratory Technician – Haematology (Wellington)

About the role

We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Haematology Department at Wellington Hospital. This permanent, full‑time role involves performing a wide range of routine and specialist haematology tests using state‑of‑the‑art automated equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic testing in the Haematology Department.
• Operate and maintain automated laboratory systems and equipment.
• Ensure accurate and reliable test results in line with laboratory standards.
• Follow quality assurance, safety, and infection‑control procedures.
• Collaborate with the laboratory team to support efficient workflow.
• Contribute to high‑quality patient care through precise and timely testing.

Required profile

• Strong initiative and meticulous attention to detail, with consistent, accurate record keeping.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to remain composed in a fast‑paced, time‑critical environment.
• Ability to work independently, solve problems proactively, and contribute constructively within a supportive team.
• Disciplined approach to following protocols and quality standards, with a willingness to identify and address knowledge gaps.
• Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand (or in the process) and eligibility to work in New Zealand.

Required skills
