Mechanical Fitter – Sawmill Maintenance

About the role
Waipapa Pine, a leading timber processing facility in Northland, is looking for a Mechanical Fitter to join its maintenance team. Based near Kerikeri in the Bay of Islands, you will help keep sawmill machinery running smoothly, supporting the company’s growth and commitment to quality and sustainability.
Key responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on sawmill equipment.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and inspections.
- Install, upgrade and commission new machinery.
- Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to minimise downtime.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including working at heights.
Required profile
- Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting.
- Experience in sawmill or heavy‑industrial environments (preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings.
- Forklift OSH or F endorsement.
- Commitment to workplace safety and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Required skills
- Mechanical fitting.
- Hydraulic and pneumatic system knowledge.
- Schematic drawing interpretation.
- Forklift operation (OSH/F endorsement).
- Working at heights.

- Full‑time permanent role, minimum 40 hours per week.
