Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Fonterra is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to provide engineering expertise and technical assurance for its large dairy manufacturing site at Whareroa, New Zealand. The role supports the safety, reliability and integrity of mechanical assets across the plant’s lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver site‑wide mechanical engineering expertise, ensuring assets remain safe, compliant and reliable.
• Support asset integrity programmes, pressure equipment compliance and risk‑based decision making.
• Lead complex mechanical investigations, defect elimination and root‑cause analysis, proposing cost‑effective solutions.
• Participate in design reviews, engineering change management and management‑of‑change processes.
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability and Capital Project teams to drive asset improvement.

Required profile

• Experienced Mechanical Engineer comfortable working in complex industrial environments.
• Strong technical judgement and ability to build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Proven ability to balance operational needs, regulatory requirements and long‑term asset performance.
