Mechanical Engineer – Building Services

About the role

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Building Services team in either Auckland or Christchurch. You will work on a variety of building projects across New Zealand and the wider APNA region, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver sustainable and innovative engineering solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services projects.
• Design HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling and associated mechanical systems.
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, specifications and design documentation.
• Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors and other engineering disciplines.
• Undertake site inspections, provide construction support and conduct design reviews.
• Deliver projects on schedule, within budget and to quality standards.
• Support proposal development and mentor junior engineers.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 3–7 years of experience in building services consulting.
• Technical knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building systems.
• Experience delivering projects in commercial, healthcare, education, transport, aviation or public‑sector facilities.
• Understanding of sustainable building design and energy‑efficient solutions.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Working towards chartership.
