Maritime Engineer Tutor

About the role

We are seeking a full‑time Maritime Engineer Tutor to join the International Maritime Institute of New Zealand in Nelson for the 2026 academic year. The successful candidate will deliver the Maritime Engineering programme, engage students in practical and theoretical learning, and support their progression to industry‑ready graduates.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate classroom and hands‑on training sessions for maritime engineering students.
• Review, update and develop teaching resources and classroom materials.
• Create, administer and mark assessments, and process student results.
• Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment using modern simulators and training equipment.

Required profile

• Marine Engineer Class 3 (MEC3) qualification (essential).
• Experience as a Chief Engineer in a marine engineering environment.
• Strong understanding of marine systems, maintenance schedules and regulatory requirements.
• Presentation and communication experience (teaching qualification support provided).
• Acceptable level of computer literacy.
• Experience on sea‑going or on‑shore vessels, particularly fishing or smaller craft.
