Marine Reliability Engineer

About the role

RealNZ is seeking a senior Marine Reliability Engineer to ensure the safety, reliability and performance of its iconic marine fleet. The role blends detailed technical analysis with long‑term asset planning, supporting unforgettable guest experiences across New Zealand’s most celebrated waterways.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert technical advice on vessel maintenance, lifecycle planning and reliability strategies.
• Support complex repairs, scheduled maintenance, vessel audits and continuous improvement of the CMMS (Maximo).
• Lead asset optimisation initiatives and marine projects, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with marine leaders, engineering consultants and contractors to deliver safe and efficient work.

Required profile

• Relevant trade‑based qualification and a full NZ driver’s licence.
• Minimum 5 years experience maintaining commercial vessels and 10 years working with heavy equipment.
• Strong technical capability, high attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Experience with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), preferably Maximo.
• Knowledge of marine classification society standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register).
• Proficiency in reliability‑centred maintenance practices and techniques such as FMECA, RCM, MTBF analysis and failure investigations.
• Ability to interpret technical data, conduct root‑cause analysis and facilitate cross‑functional problem‑solving sessions.
