Manager, Media and Events

About the role

We are seeking a Manager, Media and Events to lead Greater Wellington’s proactive and reactive media engagement, event delivery and sponsorship activities. Based in our central Wellington office, you will ensure these functions operate consistently, risk‑aware and aligned with organisational strategy and democratic accountability.

Key responsibilities

• Set the strategic approach to proactive and reactive media engagement for Greater Wellington.
• Lead planning, execution and evaluation of events and sponsorship initiatives.
• Manage the media phone line and oversee out‑of‑hours events to ensure smooth operation.
• Support emergency response by providing public communications through the Public Information Management (PIM) desk.
• Align media and events activities with organisational strategy, customer experience objectives and democratic accountability.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in media relations, reputation, risk or crisis management.
• Proven ability to provide strategic, trusted advice to internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong people‑management experience, ideally leading a high‑performing team of around five.
• Familiarity with Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) or emergency communications is an advantage.
