Manager, Media and Events

About the role

We are seeking a Manager, Media and Events to lead our multidisciplinary communications team in Greater Wellington. Based in our central Wellington office, you will shape the region’s strategic approach to media engagement, event delivery and sponsorship, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy and community expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement proactive and reactive media strategies for the region.
• Oversee the planning and execution of events and sponsorship activities.
• Manage out‑of‑hours media phone and ensure smooth operation of after‑hours events.
• Support emergency response communications through the Public Information Management desk.
• Lead and develop a high‑performing five‑person Media and Events team.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in media relations, reputation, risk or crisis management.
• Proven ability to provide strategic advice to internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience with coordinated incident management systems or emergency communications is an advantage.
• Strong people‑management background, having led a high‑performing team.
