Manager, External Reporting & Tax

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Manager, External Reporting & Tax to join Suncorp New Zealand’s Finance team on a 13‑month fixed‑term contract covering parental leave. The role leads the delivery of high‑quality external financial statements and oversees all tax compliance matters, ensuring robust governance and financial integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver IFRS‑compliant financial reports for all entities on time and with accuracy.
• Lead the full external audit cycle, manage auditor relationships and ensure high‑quality deliverables.
• Provide technical accounting advice on new transactions, projects and evolving standards.
• Oversee tax compliance (excluding payroll tax), ensuring timely filings and payments.
• Deliver expert tax advice on transactions, product development, regulatory changes and cross‑border issues.
• Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing team, fostering a culture of performance and collaboration.

Required profile

• Commerce or Law degree with a CA/CPA qualification.
• 8‑10+ years post‑qualification experience in financial reporting and tax, preferably in a Big 4 or corporate environment.
• Strong IFRS and tax technical knowledge applied in a practical setting.
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
