Maintenance Team Member – Handyperson

About the role

We are looking for a reliable and skilled Maintenance Team Member – Handyperson to join our hotel maintenance crew. You will help keep the hotel building, guest rooms, public areas and surrounding facilities operating safely, cleanly and comfortably for guests and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Perform general building maintenance tasks such as gib stopping, carpentry, basic plumbing, painting and electrical testing.
• Inspect guest rooms and common areas, report damage, complete job sheets and keep records up to date.
• Prioritise maintenance requests, decide when to involve external contractors and respond promptly to urgent issues.
• Maintain accurate logs of work performed and supplies used.
• Coordinate with the Chief Engineer or Manager on Duty as needed.
• Ensure all work complies with fire, health & safety and environmental procedures.
• Suggest improvements to systems and procedures as part of continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in general building, facility or hotel maintenance.
• Broad ability to carry out basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, gib stopping and general repairs.
• Understanding of health and safety protocols and safe use of hand and power tools.
• Capability to work independently, including weekend or rostered shifts.
• Strong problem‑solving and customer‑service orientation.
• Basic computer literacy for completing job reports and incident logs.
• Valid visa to work in New Zealand (no sponsorship offered).
