LGOIMA Advisor

About the role

Join Selwyn Council’s Governance, Legal and Risk Team as an LGOIMA Advisor. Reporting to the Governance Lead, you will coordinate the handling of all information requests—including Local Government Official Information and Meeting Act (LGOIMA), Privacy Act, and Ombudsman inquiries—ensuring timely and compliant responses.

Key responsibilities

• Assess incoming LGOIMA, Privacy Act and Ombudsman requests and identify required information.
• Communicate requests and coordinate information gathering with relevant departments.
• Analyse collected data for appropriateness, work with the Legal Team to approve releases.
• Co‑ordinate complaints and investigations by the Ombudsman or Privacy Commissioner.
• Report request status to Executive Leadership and the Audit & Risk Committee.
• Improve internal systems and processes for managing requests.
• Enhance transparency and public reporting on information requests.

Required profile

• 2‑5 years experience in a similar environment (e.g., immigration, courts, law firm, public‑sector administration).
• Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines and assess legislative requirements.
• Strong initiative, judgement and the ability to know when to escalate.
• Experience building internal and external relationships.
• High attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
