Legal Subject Matter Expert

About the role

LexisNexis is seeking a Legal Subject Matter Expert to join its Data Discovery & Enrichment team in New Zealand. In this full‑time position you will help shape AI‑driven legal products by applying your legal expertise to test, evaluate, and improve intelligent tools.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to plan and execute AI review projects.
• Conduct detailed reviews of AI outputs, rate responses, and provide actionable feedback for model improvement.
• Supervise and mentor junior DDE experts, ensuring quality and consistency of their work.
• Develop and maintain annotation and relevance evaluation datasets following best practices.
• Communicate insights and recommendations that influence product features and customer experience.

Required profile

• Law degree with at least 2 years of experience in a New Zealand legal practice.
• Proven ability in advanced legal research and writing.
• Experience in managing, coaching, or mentoring junior colleagues.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and a customer‑centric mindset.
• Capability to handle highly complex projects independently.
