Legal Counsel

About the role

Serko is building a next‑generation business travel marketplace and needs a Legal Counsel to provide pragmatic, timely advice across commercial, corporate governance and regulatory matters. You will work closely with product, sales and technology teams to ensure legal compliance while supporting the company’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate and manage commercial contracts with customers, resellers, partners and third‑party technology providers across NZ, AU and the US.
• Collaborate with business leads, security and tech teams to source products and services from trusted suppliers.
• Advise on global privacy and cookie legislation (GDPR, CCPA, AU/NZ Privacy Acts) and monitor regulatory developments.
• Support NZX and ASX governance, listing rule compliance, annual shareholders meeting requirements and corporate reporting, including ESG and climate‑related disclosures.
• Maintain internal policy suites, develop legal templates and manage compliance for subsidiaries.
• Leverage legal tech to automate routine tasks, design stakeholder training and act as primary liaison for external counsel.

Required profile

• Experience in private practice or in‑house legal roles handling corporate law and governance matters.
• Strong stakeholder management, interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Proactive, analytical mindset with attention to detail.
• Bachelor of Laws degree and a current practising certificate in New Zealand.
