Lecturer / Senior Lecturer – Perioperative Practice

About the role

We are seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to join the School of Acute and Primary Health at AUT’s South Campus. The role involves teaching, curriculum development and research in peri‑operative practice, supporting a national programme that integrates simulation, clinical expertise and innovative teaching methods.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in peri‑operative nursing and related subjects.
• Develop and enhance curriculum, including simulation‑based education components.
• Lead or contribute to research projects and evidence‑based practice initiatives.
• Collaborate with clinical partners and contribute to programme development.
• Participate in departmental and university service activities.

Required profile

• Registered health professional or academic with substantial experience in the peri‑operative environment.
• Demonstrated teaching capability at tertiary level.
• Evidence of research activity or a strong interest in developing a research programme.
• Commitment to the values of Pono, Tika and Aroha and to Māori and Pacific knowledge.

Required skills

• Knowledge of peri‑operative nursing, critical and acute care, post‑anaesthesia care.
• Experience with simulation‑based education and anaesthetic technology.
• Ability to apply research and evidence‑based practice in health education.
