Learning Adviser – English Language Enrichment

About the role

We are looking for a Learning Adviser – English Language Enrichment to join the Learning and Teaching Development team within Student and Scholarly Services at the University of Auckland. The role focuses on supporting students and staff to improve academic English and writing skills, delivering workshops, advisory sessions and resources that help students succeed in their studies.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver academic English and writing development support through workshops, speaking groups and one‑to‑one advisory sessions.
• Design, create and maintain academic writing and English language resources, including online materials.
• Collaborate with faculties and service divisions to embed language enrichment into curricula and student success initiatives.
• Support DELNA activities such as referrals, assessments and the development of student learning plans.
• Evaluate services, monitor student needs and incorporate research and best practice for continuous improvement.
• Provide professional development to academic and professional staff on supporting students with English as an additional language.

Required profile

• Relevant postgraduate qualification (essential).
• Minimum five years’ experience supporting students with English language and academic writing in a tertiary context.
• Understanding of teaching English as an additional language and academic literacy requirements.
• Ability to analyse student learning needs and design effective learning pathways.
• Strong facilitation, teaching, communication, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity in education.
• Preferred: TESOL or EAL teaching qualification, experience mentoring colleagues, experience with international students.
