Lead Software Engineer

About the role
We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to be the technical heart of a high‑performing squad at Southern Cross Health Insurance. You will combine hands‑on coding with architectural decision‑making, guiding the team to deliver small, frequent releases while maintaining long‑term engineering quality.
Key responsibilities
- Write production code daily using JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, React, Angular and .NET technologies.
- Make architectural choices and balance product priorities with engineering excellence.
- Drive CI/CD optimisation, implement modern tooling, and manage ephemeral environments.
- Partner with Product, Platform and Architecture teams to slice work, manage risk and communicate trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Embed testing from the start, covering unit, contract, component, API and end‑to‑end scenarios.
- Coach team members, foster a safe environment for challenging assumptions and stay curious about AI and emerging practices.
Required profile
- Solid hands‑on experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, React, Angular and ASP.NET/.NET.
- Proficiency in Azure, Azure DevOps, Git, containerisation (Docker), Kubernetes, GitOps and Infrastructure‑as‑Code.
- Strong testing mindset across the full stack and a CI/CD‑first approach.
- Experience with secure coding, dependency management, secrets handling and least‑privilege access.
- Ability to build observable systems with SLOs, alerts, dashboards and runbooks.
- Collaborative, cross‑functional attitude with pragmatic story slicing and risk management.
