About the role
Lead Power Generation Engineer will drive the delivery of utility‑scale solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across New Zealand, working directly with leading renewable‑energy clients from development through to operation. The role combines project management, technical coordination and strategic problem‑solving, supported by Aurecon’s Solar PV and BESS specialists in New Zealand and APAC.
Key responsibilities
- Manage end‑to‑end solar PV and BESS projects for utility‑scale developers, ensuring timely delivery and client satisfaction.
- Lead or contribute to owner’s engineering, due‑diligence, lender technical advisory and design services within Aurecon’s service portfolio.
- Oversee project onboarding, maintain client relationships and act as the primary technical point of contact.
- Coordinate with internal specialists and external stakeholders, including Transpower and the System Operator, for grid‑connection activities.
Required profile
- Minimum 6 years of experience in the power industry and at least 3 years in commercial or utility‑scale solar PV.
- Strong understanding of the full project lifecycle from approvals and grid connection to construction and operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering preferred; other engineering disciplines considered.
- Valid Class 1 New Zealand driver’s licence and willingness to travel across New Zealand and APAC.
Required skills
- Proficiency with PVsyst, AutoCAD, PVcase, Rated Power or SAM (NREL).
- Extensive use of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
- Familiarity with CRM/ERM platforms such as MS Dynamics (advantage).
- Experience with grid‑connection processes and interaction with Transpower and the System Operator.
