Lead Financial Advisor

About the role

This permanent position offers an experienced finance professional the chance to move beyond traditional number‑crunching and provide clear, commercial financial governance advice to local boards and senior decision‑makers across Auckland.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality, easily understood financial advice to local boards.
• Identify savings, efficiencies, revenue and funding opportunities.
• Present financial insights to elected members and senior stakeholders to build confidence in decision‑making.
• Review reports with financial implications for policy and advice quality.
• Build strong relationships across finance, local boards and the wider council.

Required profile

• Depth of finance experience with strong commercial judgement.
• Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non‑finance audiences.
• Political acumen, resilience and sound judgement in high‑profile environments.
• Collaborative, solutions‑focused approach to manage competing priorities.

Required skills

• Professional registration with CAANZ or a comparable body.
• Senior commercial accounting or business advisory experience.
• Strong planning, budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting capabilities.
• Confidence presenting complex advice to senior and political audiences.
