Lead Engineer – Infrastructure & Cloud (Azure)

About the role

SG Consulting is seeking a Lead Engineer to drive infrastructure and cloud initiatives across a complex enterprise environment. The role combines technical leadership with strategic partnership to modernise Windows, Linux and Azure platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for enterprise infrastructure and cloud engineering programmes.
• Design, implement and optimise hybrid environments spanning Windows Server, Linux/Unix and Microsoft Azure.
• Lead cloud transformation and infrastructure modernisation projects.
• Engage senior technology and business stakeholders to align strategy with delivery outcomes.
• Govern platform standards, architecture alignment and operational best practices.
• Collaborate with security, networking, platform, DevOps and application teams to ensure scalable, resilient solutions.
• Mentor engineering teams and champion engineering excellence.
• Support incident management, risk mitigation, performance optimisation and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a Principal Engineer, Technology Lead or Infrastructure Lead role within a large enterprise.
• Strong hands‑on background with Windows Server, Linux/Unix and enterprise infrastructure operations.
• Extensive experience with Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
• Track record of leading cloud migration, infrastructure transformation or modernisation initiatives.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, able to influence senior leadership.
• Experience in banking, financial services or other highly regulated sectors is highly desirable.
