Lawyer – Relationship Property Specialist

About the role

Clean Break is seeking a full‑time, on‑site Lawyer to join its Nelson team. You will provide expert advice on relationship property matters, including drafting and reviewing prenuptial and relationship property agreements, and representing clients in negotiations and litigation.

Key responsibilities

• Meet with clients to discuss relationship property issues and provide clear legal opinions.
• Draft, review, and finalise relationship property and prenuptial agreements.
• Prepare and file legal documents, and represent clients in court or alternative dispute resolution.
• Manage caseloads, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a busy practice.
• Stay up‑to‑date with relevant legislation and case law.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop effective case strategies and improve firm processes.

Required profile

• Admission to practice law in New Zealand with a current practising certificate.
• Experience in family law and relationship property, including drafting agreements and handling disputes.
• Strong legal research, analysis, and written advocacy abilities.
• Excellent client communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and empathy.
• Proven ability to manage a caseload and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to work on‑site in Nelson and collaborate within a small professional team.
