Labourer

About the role

The Civil‑Concrete team at Higgins Wellington is expanding and seeks motivated Labourers to support civil and concrete construction projects across the region. You will work alongside experienced operators, forepersons, and traffic teams to deliver safe, high‑quality outcomes on site.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with civil and concrete activities such as excavation support, backfilling, spreading, compacting and concrete preparation.
• Perform general labour tasks including shovelling, sweeping, raking, lifting and carrying materials.
• Prepare work areas, protect assets, set up and pack down sites.
• Support mobile plant operations as a trained spotter and operate small tools safely.
• Carry out basic pre‑start checks on small plant and equipment.
• Maintain tidy, organised work areas and follow Work Plans, JSEAs and supervisor instructions.
• Assist with environmental controls, spill response and site clean‑ups.

Required profile

• Positive attitude, reliability and willingness to learn.
• Ability to perform manual labour safely around plant and machinery.
• Experience in civil construction or roading labouring (desirable).
• Understanding of safe working practices on construction sites.
• Class 1 Driver Licence (required).
• Site Safe Passport, TTM Awareness/TC Basic or First Aid (desirable).

Required skills

• Kerb machine operation (extruded and cast in‑situ) – a plus.
• Class 1 Driver Licence.
