Kitchen Hand

About the role

Sofitel Wellington is seeking a friendly and energetic part‑time Kitchen Hand to join its kitchen team. This role supports the smooth operation of the kitchen by maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Perform cleaning duties throughout the kitchen, including utensils, equipment, walls, floors and work surfaces.
• Sanitize and store cutlery, crockery and kitchen appliances using industrial washing machines or hand washing as required.
• Clean and organise food storage areas such as fridges, cool rooms and dry‑goods stores, adhering to food‑hygiene principles.
• Assist with the assembly and preparation of ingredients for cooking.
• Remove rubbish, clean industrial bins daily and keep waste areas clear.
• Report any hazards or issues to the Executive Chef.
• Carry out general maintenance of the loading dock and other kitchen areas.

Required profile

• Full New Zealand working rights.
• Professional presentation and behaviour at all times.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Physical fitness to stand up to 8 hours per shift and lift equipment over 10 kg.
• Willingness to work weekends and public holidays.
• Desire to grow and progress within Sofitel.

Required skills

• Operation of industrial washing machines.
• Knowledge of food‑hygiene standards.
• Basic food preparation and ingredient handling.
