Junior Sous Chef

About the role

As a Junior Sous Chef at Peppers Bluewater Resort you will partner with the Head/Executive Chef to deliver exceptional farm‑to‑table dishes for guests enjoying the stunning Lake Tekapo setting. You’ll help ensure smooth kitchen operations and contribute to menu innovation while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Run a designated kitchen section, ensuring seamless service and assist other sections as needed.
• Support the Head/Executive Chef in creating seasonal menus that reflect the resort’s direction and manage food costs.
• Supervise and mentor junior chefs, overseeing onboarding and ongoing development.
• Handle administrative tasks such as rostering, stock taking, ordering and monthly reporting.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, HACCP, hygiene and workplace health and safety regulations.

Required profile

• NZ Diploma equivalent or at least 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
• Proven experience as a Chef de Partie or equivalent in a reputable establishment.
• Strong culinary passion with modern approach to menu planning.
• Professional presentation, communication skills and positive attitude.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

Required skills

• Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) – essential.
• Leadership and team management abilities.
• Food safety and HACCP knowledge.
