IT Asset Accountant

About the role

The IT Asset Accountant will manage the financial reporting and accounting of IT projects and assets for Foodies, a large New Zealand retail co‑op. This role sits at the intersection of Finance and IT, ensuring accurate capitalisation, depreciation and compliance with accounting standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support end‑to‑end IT project accounting, from initial set‑up through to reporting and asset capitalisation.
• Manage project financials, including labour, external costs and monthly reporting.
• Set up and maintain SAP project structures, ensuring data integrity across systems.
• Produce reports to support project monitoring and decision‑making.
• Manage IT asset capitalisation, depreciation and maintain the fixed asset register.
• Perform reconciliations, investigate variances and support impairment assessments.
• Ensure compliance with Capex policies and uphold strong financial controls.
• Identify process improvement opportunities and drive efficiencies.

Required profile

• A degree in Accounting, Commerce or a related field and working towards a CA qualification.
• Working knowledge of NZ IFRS with practical experience in project accounting, fixed assets or IT environments.
• Experience in large, complex organisations; SAP experience is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical ability, clear communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proactive, curious mindset focused on continuous improvement.
