Investigator – Occupational Regulation

About the role
Join the Occupational Regulation team at MBIE as an Investigator, working on a diverse caseload across licensing schemes such as Immigration Advisers, Electrical Workers and Motor Vehicle Traders. You will protect the public by investigating complaints and regulatory breaches, applying legislation and sound judgement to produce robust recommendations.
Key responsibilities
- Investigate complaints and alleged breaches across multiple occupational licensing schemes.
- Analyse large volumes of information, identify key issues and formulate evidence‑based recommendations.
- Engage with complainants, regulated practitioners, Boards, legal advisers and other stakeholders.
- Prepare clear, well‑reasoned investigation reports to support decision‑making.
- Assist matters that progress to disciplinary or court processes.
Required profile
- Experience in investigations, compliance, enforcement, complaints handling or a comparable regulatory environment.
- Curious, detail‑oriented approach with strong analytical abilities.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply legislation, policy and procedures.
- Excellent written communication and report‑writing skills.
- Good judgement, discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
- Confidence engaging a wide range of stakeholders.
- Knowledge of tribunals, regulatory Boards or court processes is an advantage.
- Effective time‑management and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.

- Salary range $85,537–$101,911 per year.
