Intermediate Full Stack Developer

About the role

NZTE is seeking an Intermediate Full Stack Developer to join its Digital & Data team in either Auckland or Wellington. You will help build and enhance digital experiences that support New Zealand businesses on the global stage.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain customer‑facing and internal digital products.
• Work across front‑end (React) and back‑end (Node.js, TypeScript/JavaScript) technologies.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, Analysts, Testers and fellow developers in agile squads.
• Contribute to solution design, testing, deployment and incident resolution.
• Use AI‑assisted tools such as GitHub Copilot to accelerate delivery while applying sound engineering judgement.
• Build secure‑by‑design solutions, applying authentication, authorisation and secure handling of sensitive data.
• Manage dependencies, remediate vulnerabilities and review AI‑generated code for quality, security and privacy compliance.

Required profile

• 4‑6 years of commercial software development experience at an enterprise level.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership and collaborate with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset, growth‑oriented and effective communicator.
• Commitment to security as a core part of software quality.
• Embraces modern engineering practices, including AI‑assisted development.
